In an attempt to make sure we have as much documentation as possible when we try to get K's learner's permit tomorrow, we are hunting for paperwork. Notable among the missing is her Social Security Card, which has somehow vanished into the ether. We *do* have our tax return that includes her Social Security number and we will have to see if that will get us through.

While Gretchen was thrashing through papers downstairs, I was doing similar up here in the office. The Social Security Card has stubbornly remained among the missing, but I *did* find a whole bunch of documents that could be recycled, including when Massachusetts apparently decided that we needed to file sales tax with them, despite the fact that they'd only issued us a temporary permit for that particular Worldcon in Boston. And because we hadn't filed, they assessed a huge amount of hypothetical sales tax on sales that we hadn't made in the state, not having set foot in it. This was eventually sorted out, to the extent that I completely forgot that it ever happened until I found the eighteen or so year old paperwork.

I also have a bunch of stuff that needs to be shredded, but that's a much smaller and less weighty stack than what just hit the recycling bin in my office.

Oof.

I haven't had a Social Insecurity Card in half a century. No one's ever asked me to show one.
