Gretchen and I watched the "Young Sheldon" finale tonight and then I flipped over to MLB Network for the Cards / Dodgers game, because I didn't want "So Help Me Todd" to start playing in front of us and spoiling things while I got the garbage and recycling out. My timing was good, because they were about to replay the four home runs that the Cardinals had hit to take a 6-2 lead over the Dodgers. Then Arenado hit another homer in the fourth following a Mercado steal of home on the front end of a double steal, the Cardinals were leading 9-2, and I was feeling pretty good about things.

I headed off to sort out the garbage. While I was gone, the usually reliable Paul Goldschmidt made a fielding booboo which eventually resulted in a bunch of unearned runs being charged to Wainwright -- who I am really fond of and would like to see win his 200th career game this year -- and then the arson squad came in and suddenly the score was 9-7. And a Max Muncy home run made it 9-8 and I was looking at this and going "The Cardinals have hit five home runs and are about to find a way to lose this game."

Then they hit two more home runs in the bottom of the eighth and scored seven more runs to take a 16-8 lead and I was feeling rather better about it. :) Those last two homers made two each on the night for Contreras and Gorman.

The seven homers on the night for the Cardinals tied the team record for homers in a game, set in 1940 in a home game against the *Brooklyn* Dodgers; they also hit seven homers later in a game vs. the Cubs at Wrigley.

With that win and the Washington loss earlier in the day, the Cardinals no longer have the worst record in the National League.
