Cards Win!

billroperI headed down to Wrigley for the second game of the Cubs vs. Cards series and -- much to my surprise! -- the Cardinals managed to squeak out a 6-4 win, scoring two in the top of the ninth for the victory. The starter, Taillon, had control problems which led to the Cards scoring three runs while batting around to go up 4-1; Flaherty also had control problems which a lot of double plays helped cover up, so he left with a 4-3 lead. Of course, that didn't last.
Meanwhile, the second Cubs reliever pitched splendidly for five innings. And then in the ninth, he did not, giving up a homer, triple, and double in succession for two Cardinal runs. Happily, that was enough runs for the Cardinals, as the closer, Gallegos, did his job.
It was a good game. (It would still have been a good game if the Cardinals lost, but I would feel less good about it.)
