[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I headed down to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play the Padres. Gretchen got her free Precious Moments figurine, we had a fine brunch at the Stadium Club, and we damned near froze to death in 50 degree temperatures, because the wind was blowing straight in off the lake at a substantial velocity.

Rich Hill pitched a pretty reasonable game, but the bullpen came in and blew things up completely, as the Cubs lost 9-0. The Padres pitcher threw a complete game of 92 pitches, which you can only do if you're Greg Maddux or facing the Cubs, apparently. I mean it's not like they were taking any pitches.

Of course, they never do.

Brr...that sounds brisk. I didn't go outside today. *grin* I've been working on unearthing my bedroom which meant that it went through a period of being much worse than it started...but now it's starting to look better.

(Oh, the freedom of being able to box up the philosophy books I don't actually use much and now don't have to deal with if I don't want to...it made more room on my book case for fun books! (And I still have them fairly easily accessible if I desperately need to look up something in Aristotle's Physics.)

There's a comic-book plot in this. Evil genius turns the frozen, grimacing corpses of baseball fans into Precious Moments figurines.

At least it wasn't raining, like it has been down here for a week. Or maybe, considering how the Cubs sucked, it would have been better if it had rained. Since the Cubbies are playing like it's mid-September instead of mid-May, rain-delaying their whole schedule might help.
