The Hole Truth

Last weekend, I was dispatched to the local McDonald's to return with coffee and such. On the way home, I made a right turn from Golf onto Mt. Prospect Rd., turning into the left lane southbound. This turned out to be a good choice, because a few feet past the intersection in the *right* lane southbound, a manhole cover was turned perpendicular and sticking up into traffic where I would have surely encountered it, doing good to neither manhole nor my car.
I called the police and reported it. Shortly afterwards, there were electric sheep everywhere, directing traffic around the offending hole. Today, it turned into a major construction site, complete with Bobcat equipped with a jackhammer, as repairs are underway.
I guess it was a good thing to report. (It was a good thing to report in any case; it just turned out to be more problematic than I'd expected.)
