Deathly Silent Monday
Apr. 24th, 2006 11:48 amOne of my co-workers wasn't here this morning -- he may be working at home. Another feels sick and just went home. Another is at Solutions, our company's annual user conference. So there are three of us here at the moment.
I'm working on a project that requires me to run a five minute calculation to get to the point where I see what's going wrong this time. Then it's tweak and run again. So I'm reading things.
And -- of course! -- the GT and Dorsai mailing lists are mostly silent, and there's not a tremendous amount of LJ activity.
Obviously, it's Monday.

Date: 2006-04-24 05:18 pm (UTC)There's a page of new content on one of my sites this morning. Occupy you for at least fifteen seconds.
Or friend one of the Doctor Who communities. Lots to read if you don't mind spoiling the new season airing in England.
Or try the archives of a webcomic you don't read. Digger's free during Eisner voting.

Date: 2006-04-24 05:31 pm (UTC)I always get less reading done after I buy a faster computer, as the compiles stop taking so long.
And, harkening back to our college days, when (in response the nth Plato IV interruption of the night) I said "Well, I wanted to finish Lord of the Rings anyway..."
Here at my apartment, where I am working, I took advantage of one such lull today to try to calibrate my oven. The stove is tiny, and the oven dial is poorly labeled from 1 to 9 (no, it does not go to 11).
So once I'd hacksawed a new oven rack to fit, I hung a thermometer on it, set the knob to 4 (hoping that was 400), and waited for the light to go off.
When it did, I was disappointed to find that the thermometer only read 300 (75 degrees per increment?). And that there were flames coming from the right hand side of the oven floor, through a seam.
So much for cooking with that appliance.
