This and That

billroperToday's softball game did not go as well as yesterday's, partly due, I suspect to a bit of fatigue in the hot weather and partly due to the other team playing an essentially perfect defensive game. It didn't help that the umpire, working from behind the mound, made a number of calls at home that seemed questionable. This eventually led to me yelling to the kids that they needed to get onto the third base side of the plate while making the tag at home, because it was clear that they were not going to get the call otherwise.
I was, at that point, not upset with the kids, but I had clearly had enough of this particular umpire. :)
Mind you, the other team played quite well, so it probably wouldn't have mattered to the final outcome save that it would have been closer. But our team played a pretty good game as well and the kids continue to improve, even if it doesn't always show up in the final score.
And, you know, as long as they play clean and hard, I'm happy.
