The end of the story first: Chris was good enough to drop [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, [livejournal.com profile] catalana, and me by the airport this morning. We ended up carrying on the dulcimer that Gretchen had bought at the Interfilk auction -- after I sat on the shipping box in front of the folks at the check-in desk while demonstrating the soundness of the packing. (Despite this and an unmanned trip down an escalator at O'Hare, the dulcimer appears to be fine.) The flight was crowded, slightly delayed, but generally uneventful. I started reading Calvin Trillin's The Tummy Trilogy (which Sam and Bonnie gave me for Christmas a few years ago) on the way back, resulting in a trip to Smokey Bones for barbeque for dinner. Later in the evening, [livejournal.com profile] tarkrai returned my call from last week and we compared notes on past and future cons.

Sunday: We listened to some good music, including Puzzlebox's kids concert. Ran up and were interviewed by the film crew working on a filk documentary, which was a kick. We may end up hosting a housefilk sometime in the future for them to do some filming at, since we have more room for the film crew to work in than a number of the more regular Chicago and Milwaukee sites. We'll see.

We ducked out for dinner with Erica and her sister, Liz, which led to a fun and wide ranging conversation. (I've forgotten exactly which variant of the Sicilian used to be Liz's favorite chess opening, but I never was very good at memorizing book lines.) And a party of four was much easier to seat than the previous night's party of twelve. We write songs, but do we learn from them? Well, slowly, at least. :)

Then we came back for what was a huge and lively Dead Dog filk. I sang Look At Me, then ended up in the hall giving Taunya the capsule plot summary for the musical, including several plot points that Erica hadn't yet heard. Gretchen crashed out early because her knee was bothering her; I ended up heading to bed a bit after 1 AM, since we'd need to get up and pack to catch our ride to the airport in the morning.

We had an absolutely wonderful time! Many thanks to the Consonance committee for inviting us.

You have a formatting problem there, right after "... Dead Dog filk. I sang". Just sayin'.

Glad you had a good time, and congrats on being invited. It would have been fun to be there, I'm sure, but there's more cons than I can go to without having to deal with flying...

Yup! The three people crammed into the back seat and the guitars rode shotgun. Got to take care of the instruments.

I didn't think Puzzlebox's kids were old enough to give a concert yet.

Oh, wait, that would be Puzzlebox's kids' concert.

Well, no, I haven't. Sounds like I ought to, however. Anyway, I was thinking of Gracie, Riley, and Casey.

Who is this I'm replying to, by the way?

It was absolutely outstanding meeting you and Gretchen. I don't think I've had so much fun at a filk convention in a long time. And I really want to do your musical when it's done. :)
