[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I are back from Capricon -- or, at least, we both were until she called back to the hotel to ask what she should do with the radio that she took from the Art Show when they (all from out of town) really wanted to leave the hotel and it turned out that Ops had folded up temporarily to get dinner too.

I had a fine time, but I'm just exhausted. Filk was much fun, including [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, [livejournal.com profile] catalana, [livejournal.com profile] min0taur, [livejournal.com profile] singlemaltsilk, [livejournal.com profile] tigertoy, [livejournal.com profile] tollers, [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium, [livejournal.com profile] markbernstein, [livejournal.com profile] filker0, [livejournal.com profile] almeda, and probably several others whose LJ handles are plumb eluding me at this moment. I had a good time running live sound for Wild Mercy, which was the only one of the main concerts that I saw.

Note for next year: the Internet Cafe and Filk Programming need to coordinate their schedules so that they're not counter-programming one filk/music event against another. I was up against a music session that Moonwulf was running; [livejournal.com profile] catalana was up against another similar session; while Kat Eggleston was up against Wild Mercy. This is counter-productive. However, since next year's Chair ([livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise) informs me that I'm running Filk next year, I think I can work this out. :)

I missed [livejournal.com profile] filkertom's concert (after setting mics), because it was right after Wild Mercy and I really needed to go get dinner, since I'd gone straight from the Dealers' Room to Wild Mercy setup. I'm having this scheduling problem with Tom's concerts...

[livejournal.com profile] daddy_guido ran a good con. The Program Book was one of the best that I've seen -- and guys, you should think about posting it archivally on your website, because it was just that good.

There were various rough spots in the pre-con planning for having the Dorsai Irregulars help run the Art Show, but it turned out to be a case of all's well that ends well. If the DI work the Art Show again next year, it'll be much smoother. And I got a really nice glass paperweight by an artist whose name I've cleverly forgotten. (Although I don't think I ever had time to walk around the Dealers' Room, despite the amount of time I spent there.)

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] catalana for skipping the Dead Dog filk on Sunday to help me pack up the table while [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise was dealing with the vicissitudes of being outgoing Dealers' Room Head and incoming Chair.

Much fun, much good conversation, absolute exhaustion. Must have been a good con. :)

Wheeee! Definitely a good con. I'm back home and have fallen into bed with the laptop, one very-glad-to-be-home dog and one very-glad-Mom's-home dog (Drummer, who didn't come to the con). This is the first con where I haven't been pulled in too many directions in too little time, leaving me time to actually do things like *ack!* spend money (five CDs, seven books, and a Bast's Garden dragon). And there was time to just hang out and talk to people... that was a novel change!

So you're going to run filk next year, eh? I'm guessing that means you're gonna be running in a bunch of directions, so I hereby raise my hand... if there's anything I can do to help (set up/run sound, etc.), consider me as volunteering.

There were various rough spots in the pre-con planning for having the Dorsai Irregulars help run the Art Show, but it turned out to be a case of all's well that ends well. If the DI work the Art Show again next year, it'll be much smoother.

As I understand it, that was due to a number of factors, very-few-to-none of which the DI could have had any effect on. Mostly insufficent communication, although not getting the room until Thursday morning didn't help.

No, actually. The communication failure went both ways quite enthusiastically.
I was on the concom. Roper and I were asked repeatedly by the Chair to raise some kind of response from the DI who was negotiating the contract.
People just plain didn't communicate with each other.
The only rooms that were set up before Thursday morning was ops.
The art show has always been set up Thursday morning.
The problem was communication.
Each side thought the other was going to set up the panels.

I stand corrected. (well, actually, I'm sitting, but you know what I mean.) I heard at one point that Karen thought that she'd get the room Wednesday night...(another instance of communication gone awry, however it happened).

I just want to thank you again for saving my ass and letting us borrow your sound systen all week for the various and sundry events that we needed it for. That one was I guess an assumption/communication failure on my part. Whoops... but thanks for coming through for me.
