Dr. Bob gave me samples of a new medication last week, but due to general chaos and GAFilk, I just started taking it today. It's an twice-a-day injectable for Type II diabetics called Byetta. It should help keep my blood sugar under control and make it easier for me to try to lose some weight. (Modulo actual difficult things like diet and exercise, but the problem was that the meds I've been on make the weight awfully resistant to changes in diet and exercise.)

We'll see how things go. Did I mention that I hate needles?

Good luck w/the new med. I can understand the hatred of needles; mom is a Type II also, and her big fear was that she would have to take insulin. (As a side note, she is on it now, but being in the nursing home, she doesn't have to give the shots to herself.) I didn't realize that you were also diabetic. Good for you for taking care of your health!

*hugs*

I always recommend to people who have said they are trying to loose weight, the blood type diet. I lost 75 lb five years ago. Also helpfull for chronic illnesses. "Eat Right 4 Your Type" Peter D'Adamo.
I promise never to sermonize on it again unless asked.

I agree on the hating of needles. The most encouraging perspective I can offer is that when my cat Leonora developed diabetes, I thought I wouldn't be able to overcome my phobia of them enough to give her insulin shots, but it turned out not to be that difficult, and she only made minor complaints. You'll manage too, I'm confident.

i don't have much trouble sticking my finger to test blood sugar, but i truly understand not wanting to do injections...

i recommend changes in diet and exercise anyhow...

I had a physical last month, and met with my doctor on Wednesday to discuss the test results. My blood sugar came out a little high (107), so I'm doing some diet and exercise changes *now*, and going in next week for a two hour glucose and insulin resistance test. (I may not have that exactly right.) The idea being, of course, to head things off before it turns into diabetes.

Best of luck, strength and will power. I'm also type II diabetic, but I hadn't heard of this medication. And I, too, hate needles. Keep us posted on how it goes, because with the same diagnosis, I might wind up someday with the same prescription. We'll see.

By the way, I'd asked you if you could give me the total (roughly) of how many copies of *Rainbow's Edge* you eventually sold. I would still like the answer to that question. Thanks.

Ick ick ick. My sister CC has to give her partner injections for MS...I wouldn't want to do that either. (Not least because CC always wants to do it slowly so it won't hurt as much and Cindi wants her to hurry up so it's over faster...*grin*) *hug* Good luck with it.
