We are now through four chapters of Heinlein's The Rolling Stones. Katie is finding it greatly amusing, although she is occasionally annoyed at Heinlein "picking on" things like automobiles.

I am waiting until she finds out about the flat cats. :)

I was confused since I didn't recognise the title - it appears that it was published in the UK as "Space Family Stone" which I have read.

On the subject of books for Katie, David Weber's "A Beautiful Friendship" and the sequels "Fire Season" and "Treecat Wars" co-written with Jane Lindskold might be of interest.

Also the line, "I'm a doctor, not a fortune-teller!" (Has Katie seen ST:TOS?)

Expectations change as the art advances. TOS was the best thing ever when I was Katie's age and now I find it unwatchable. I can't imagine a kid today being willing to sit through 10 minutes or the first scene with special effects.

She hasn't. We're still at the Disney XD level for SF.

The Rolling Stones was my favorite of the Heinlein juveniles when I was a young fan. I sort of wonder how it would hold up today, but my pile of books I've never read is too high.

It's doing ok. There is too much smoking and too many slide rules, but other than that, it's not doing too badly. The science is balonium, but that's not really a problem at this level.
