Another Splendid Windows 10 Experience

So after my enforced Windows 10 update from last night, I attempted to log in this morning.

In round 1, my Start Menu had been reset to the default, my wallpaper was missing, and none of my files were accessible.

Then the machine crashed out when I tried to log out.

Round 2: I log in and am given the "Hi. Your computer has been updated. All of your files are where they used to be." message. Miraculously, the files are there when this nonsense abates and I am allowed to log in. My wallpaper was still missing. I am run through the procedure to establish a Microsoft One Drive which I don't intend to use, but which I figure I will let it do to get it to shut up. And when I tried to go to the Start Menu, it crashed and I got a message telling me to log out to reload it.

Round 3: So I log back in. Now I have my correct Start menu back and can access my files. I pull up my email and try to display one of the mails in my default browser, Google Chrome.

The email displays in Microsoft Edge.

I fire up Google Chrome. It says that it is still my default browser.

Apparently, "default browser" does not mean what you think it does, grasshopper...

Every time I fire up Chrome on my Windoze 10 machine, it asks if I'd like to make it the default browser.

So, it appears our machines seem to be having opposite variations of the same issue.

Another good example of why I've not updated to Windoze 10.

Every time I start Firefox, it defaults to the Yahoo Home Page, even though I have told it repeatedly that I want it to default to Google. Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds this version annoying. And why does every other browser tab have to open with a Yahoo logo? And why do 2 browser windows have to open when I only try to open one?

You've somehow installed a Yahoo add-on that hijacks the main page, search, address line, and tabs. If it was installed via the usual channel (missing the click box when installing freeware like Adobe Acrobat or Java), then you should be able to go to the add-ons or extensions page and remove it.

Just noting that isn't the fault of Win10.

Inadvertent Install of Yahoo

I'd like to say I didn't install anything new, but that would be a lie. And that stupid Yahoo login won't go away no matter what I do. I know how to get around the second tab opening with Yahoo - just pay more attention to the search choices. However, two tabs opening at the same time, with one of them for "support" can apparently be blamed on Cortana, not on me. So unimpressed with this version of Windows.
