So we're into summer and it's time for alternative viewing. Some of this has been killing off episodes of series that were recorded earlier in the year; some has been summer series of one sort or another.

Under The Dome is back. I'm still watching it. Gretchen has given up on it, declaring it too claustrophobic for her tastes. The stupidity is still thick on the ground here, but we're moving toward a resolution.

Extant has been dropped -- actually, not even started up again after last season. If anything interesting is happening there, you all can let us know. :)

Halt and Catch Fire is a series that we're watching with a sort of fascination that you have for an impending train wreck. I remember 1985. I may remember it better than the writers. I do know that we had been running chat rooms on PLATO in the late 1970s, so I am less than impressed with this innovation. Of course, PLATO was always ahead of its time...

Hot In Cleveland was stacked up waiting for us to watch it. It was a lot of fun. We're going to have to see if they continue re-running older episodes that we've never watched, as we watched really irregularly before this year.

The Good Witch is a Hallmark series starring Catherine Bell (who we met on JAG). It's good light viewing. We're digging through the old movies, many of which were just rerun this last week.

Forever was a series that we recorded but never got around to watching before it was canceled. We're enjoying it quite a bit, so we're sad that it didn't make it. I commented to Gretchen that it was a series ideally designed to appeal to viewers of Castle and Elementary. Sadly, it appears that the Venn diagram intersection of those two sets wasn't nearly big enough, but we're in it.

And that's what's on the TV around here when the little girls aren't watching it.

So what are you watching?

One of our terrestrial channels has bought a lot of classic Dr Who, which I've been enjoying working my way through. When I started watching -- I hadn't realised the channel existed when they started -- they were in the middle of Troughton; we've now made it to early-ish Tom Baker.

The children and I are in the middle of Buffy season six, and we have a lot of Angel to catch up on at some point; they're also on a continuous loop of Leverage re watching, I think. They seem to be trying to get me addicted to Parks And Rec by osmosis, as well.

I did start on Orphan Black and Halt and Catch Fire. Unfortunately, illness means that HCF wasn't fast moving enough to stop me falling asleep in the middle, and Orphan Black is too hard for my memory to keep up, at least without simultaneous translation for the Hard of Thinking...

I dropped HaCF when I realized that I no longer cared what happened to the characters.

On SyFy, neither Killjoys nor Dark Matters held my attention, but I'm back to watching and enjoying Defiance. (On AMC, I watched the first episode of HUMANS and stopped there.)

I'll miss Hot in Cleveland and Forever. I'll miss Phineas and Ferb even more, and plan to put "Last Day of Summer", their final episode, on my Hugo nominating ballot next year for Dramatic Presentation: Short Form. It's very SF.

Speaking of the Hugos, Jonathan Strange and Mr.Norrell impressed me greatly, and is very likely to get a Dramatic Presentation: Long Form nomination from me.

Food-wise, we're both enjoying the new season of Food Network Star, and I've developed an odd fascination with Carnival Eats.

And, of course, Sharon and I are back to watching our favorite summer show, So You Think You Can Dance.

I watch a M*A*S*H and a Doctor Who most days before work. Sundays I watch one from the most recent season of Doctor Who. I just finished all the Steven Universe at Hulu, about half of it. I'm rewatching Stargate SG-1 because I've never watched the first six years in order before (haven't decided whether I'm continuing when I get to season seven) and have finally decided it's time to stop holding any I haven't seen in reserve. Of the current series I subscribe to at Hulu, only The Daily Show and The Nightly Show are currently airing; I watched the season premiere of Defiant but they killed off all the interesting characters.

While Mom was in rehab for her broken ankle she and I started Buffy, Warehouse 13, and Eureka at Amazon and then quit them because they went to pay only; but I discovered that Buffy at least we can watch on my Netflix. Then we discovered X-Files is free, and she bought the third season of Orphan Black. But we haven't been doing any tv since she got out at the beginning of July.
