Ok, what kind of person devises an SDK where you cannot read the data in from one source and write it out to a different location?

Well, Microsoft, apparently.

Well, you can "open" it, that's all Open XML's title guarantees. Being able to read it is already gravy.

Once I ran into an IDE that wouldn't let you save your code until it compiled without errors. I made sure never to use it.
