So as I was looking over our taxes, I realized that we were supposed to have received a corrected statement for one of our accounts and had not yet received it, although it should have gone out over a week ago. That was bad.

I dropped an e-mail to the financial advisor's office and got a link back where they'd uploaded the data this morning. I promptly went and downloaded the document.

And then the Internet went out.

Off to the basement to call Comcast. (After cycling the modem and the router to no avail.) Go through the automated process that fails to reset the modem successfully. Talk to the tech support person. Suggest that this is an outage. He says he has no reports of Internet problems in our area, only video. And he sends out a tech to arrive between 1 and 3 PM this afternoon.

I finish our taxes, since I'm not going to be doing any work. Then I call the financial advisor's office, confirm the numbers for the accountant for my dad's trust, fill out that form, and shove it in an envelope.

Well, I guess I might as well take these off to the accountant, because I'm not going to be doing any work. So I did.

On my way home, I was stopped by a freight train when I got a call from [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise who handed me off to the tech who had come to check on the outage. All was working fine when he got there.

I noted that the tech on the phone had reported a video outage in the area, but not an Internet outage.

"That's all carried on the same cable, so if they have to pull service down to fix the video, it will pull down the Internet too."

"Yes, I know that," I replied. "Apparently, the guy I spoke to on the phone didn't."

So I thanked him for coming out. :)

While he was here, he checked the outside wiring and found that someone had nicked the coax while closing the box. That shouldn't have caused a problem, but as long as he was here...

And thus, the taxes are done -- ok, I have to actually print and mail the Dodeka returns -- and I can now go back to work. :)
