To Dream The Impossible Dream
Jun. 3rd, 2014 11:45 pmTomorrow, we are supposed to demonstrate that we can store and retrieve one of our entity files from a relational database. I am still coding. Even if I finish my bit of the coding (and as I type here, the end is actually in sight), there is no guarantee that it will actually work, because I don't currently have anywhere to actually test my code. My direct boss is working on setting up a test platform, but I suspect it will not actually be ready tomorrow.
So why is it not yet done? Well:
The fellow who is writing the database caching layer got the code to me late last Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, I left on vacation, as
daisy_knotwise and I were guests at ConCarolinas.
On Monday, I lost almost the whole day dealing with errors in ClearCase, as I needed to rearrange the code to get it all into the right packages so that it would compile.
On Tuesday (today), our Internet connection went out for an hour.
I also had a four-hour-plus phone support meeting with one of our clients this afternoon.
Thud, thud, thud.
So why is it not yet done? Well:
Thud, thud, thud.
