Nexus 5: My Ting-A-Ling

We managed to get both phones transferred over to Ting, maintaining the old phone numbers, which is good.

In other news, the Nexus 5 stock voice phone dialer is now working via the Bluetooth in the car. I have no idea why. Maybe there was an update.

But so far, so good.

And we should end up saving at least $25 / month compared to what we were paying for cellphone service. :)

There was a recent update, to Android 4.4.2. I'm assuming your Nexus 5 is running at least Android 4.

I've been contemplating the switch to Ting.... The Nexus 5 you bought was for T-Mobile correct.... did you have to replace it to make it work on Ting(Sprint)?

No, the Nexus 5 was purchased directly from the Google Play Store on line and only phones from that source are guaranteed to port to Ting successfully. They want to make sure that people aren't trying to port in carrier-subsidized phones, because the phone is so new that most carriers that use it will have it on subsidy. I just ordered the necessary SIM card from Ting and plugged it in.

BTW, there's a referral system for Ting that will save us both a bit of money if you want me to send you the link. (Unless you've got a referral from someone else...)

We're not there yet. I need to get to the point where I can afford to Nexus 5's first. And I'm still a bit leary of Sprint's service. Sandy had them a long time ago and it was bad, I'm sure it's improved since then but old grudges and all.
