Light Bulb Report
Dec. 28th, 2013 12:30 amI dropped by Home Depot with the intent of snagging a bunch of 60 watt incandescent bulbs to hold off the inevitable until the good LED bulbs get cheaper. Right now, the affordable 60 watt Cree bulbs have their limitations. The daylight bulb is way too blue. The warm white bulbs are noticeably yellow. And they've just come out with a bulb that apparently has a very good color index, but it's $18 / bulb in the six pack, which is a bit pricey for my tastes at the moment.
And then I discovered that the GE halogen / CFL hybrid 60 watt bulb was selling for about $2 / bulb after the built-in ComEd rebate. So I figured I'd try a pair of those in the basement stairwell.
As promised, they do produce a good bit of light fairly quickly from the halogen until the CFL gets warmed up. So they seem to be ok, although I don't know if I'd necessarily trust them in the studio.
But for this application, they'll do.
