Favorite Tool

Having just picked it up from the island where I left it yesterday after replacing three electrical outlets and returned it to the drawer upstairs in the bathroom where it lives, I realize that my increasingly elderly Stanley ratchet screwdriver with the switchable bits is probably my favorite tool. If I have some project that needs to be done, it's the most likely to be recruited from its drawer for the purpose and the most likely to actually get the job done, despite -- or perhaps because -- I've had it for thirty years or thereabouts.
I presume you have favorite tools too. :)

Date: 2013-06-03 02:33 pm (UTC)My low angle block plane with the adjustable throat is another favorite. Also the Leatherman Wave my brother gave me for my birthday ends up making at least a cameo appearance on most projects.
My (corded) drill. SO useful for driving screws--and taking them out when necessary.
I have a lovely non-stick fry pan that is my go-to tool for omelets. And a heavy duty large bike pump that is my go-to tool for adjusting tire pressure on the car. I once needed the spare tire, discovered it was flat, and pumped it all the way to proper pressure with that thing. Hard work but priceless since I didn't dare drive on the flat to the gas station.

Date: 2013-06-03 07:35 pm (UTC)An old changeable-bit screwdriver I got from an auto parts store (mumble) years ago ends up being the most used manual screwdriver in the house, though it has exactly one flat blade and one phillips bit left.
I put a fair amount of wear on my miter saw as well, and after practicing with the pinner and the finish nailer yesterday I suspect that this summer the compressor and nail guns will move waaaaay up there in the "favorites" dept - especially when I reroof the shed...
