We ventured out to Woodfield Mall for dinner at Red Robin (where I'd been sent an offer for a free malt) and then for me to do a bit of remedial Christmas shopping while [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise sat with Katie and Julie in the play area.

The Christmas shopping is not yet done, but I am much closer.

However, the vast expanses of empty space in the parking lot and the deep sales at a lot of the stores was a fairly convincing message that the economy is not nearly as good as people have been trying to convince us that it is.

I mean, who are you going to believe? The official statistics or your own lying eyes?

*sigh*

I heard a report today that November "brick & mortar" retail sales were higher than last year, but not by much, certainly not as much as some people hoped. Internet sales in November on the other hand showed showed significant growth over last year.

Am I the crazy one?

My shopping was done three months ago, and I'm cheerfully avoiding the shopping MAULS until mid-January.

I got the same email from Red Robin. Did you try the gingerbread shake featured in the email? And if so, how was it?

Darn. I was hoping to get your take on it.

Have you seen the meme?

and I quote, "You have just proven that trickle-down economics does not work"

Stocks ARE up. Businesses are prospering. And people are unemployed.
