Bill and Brenda came up from Danville to watch today's Cubs / Red Sox game with us. Since we had a sitter, Gretchen was able to come too for the first time in a while.

Sadly, the Cubs lost 4-3, but it was a good game. Alfonso Soriano looked like an idiot for not running out a ground ball, but that's sort of par for the course.

*sigh*

Listening to the news this evening, I concluded that it is probably a good thing that I am not a fan of baseball - especially one who's loyalties are based on where they lived. The reporter basically said that the only thing that would keep The Padres from having the worst record in Major League Baseball was for The Cubs to loose.

So, to keep the team in my current hometown team from having that dubious honor, the team from the town where I lived most of my adult life would, instead, have to loose and keep the honor.

Most or all of the time I lived in Chicagoland, I lived north of the fuzzy line that divides Cubs fans from White Sox fans - so I usually treated The Cubs as my home team, for what ever worth that provides given my near total disinterest.

I pay almost no attention to sports, but I hear what gets onto the main news, and the impression I get is that the Cubs are really phenomenally bad this year. Why are they so bad?
