A lady from the library paid a visit to Katie's preschool on Thursday and gave her a coupon that would get her a prize if she took it to the Des Plaines Public Library. And that was where we went after lunch today.

Now, we had never set foot in the library in the years since we'd moved to town (during which time they actually built the new library), because we've become relentless buyers of books. But it seemed that the time had come.

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise stopped at the front desk to get a library card while I shepherded Katie and Julie off to the second floor which is entirely devoted, it seems, to the children's section, complete with computers to access children's games, a pirate ship, and a Duplo table. Oh, yes, and more children's books than the girls had ever seen in one place. And other children. The girls were delighted and mostly within a reasonable volume range for a library, although I see why the children's section is on a separate floor. :)

We came home with seven borrowed books and two library cards, as I grabbed one when we went back downstairs. I suppose it is still possible to borrow books.

I'd forgotten.

After we got back from the library, I occupied Katie and Julie outside while I cleaned up the side of the garage that the van resides on so that [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise can get in and out of her door without fighting with our bicycles, which had gradually merged into a tangle. Gretchen's rather dilapidated bike is now up on hooks while my slightly less dilapidated, but equally unusable at the moment, bicycle remains on the ground waiting for some tune up.

Katie and Julie rode bike and trike up and down the sidewalk and had a fine time, as the thermometer in the garage and in the sun read about 50 degrees. Julie even peeled her coat off.

But Julie is a polar bear. By the time she went in, she was a cold polar bear, but even so...

And while I had Katie and Julie occupied outside, [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise counted the Capricon proceeds and prepared a deposit. We were a bit handicapped by the broken charge machine, but sales were pretty ugly, especially given how well the filk program went.

On the other hand, my calibration was good as my initial guess was only about fifteen dollars below the high end of the range I'd given. Guesstimating sales has gotten more difficult as we get more CDs that aren't in traditional jewel cases, but I still seem to be a pretty fair guesser.
