Tenth Anniversary Plans

Gretchen and I looked at the calendar and discovered -- somewhat to our surprise -- that our 10th anniversary is rapidly approaching. Since the actual anniversary falls while we're on our way to Worldcon, we'll be having a party early in August to celebrate the occasion just a little bit early.

Later this fall, we're going on a Hawaiian cruise with friends and relatives.

This should be fun.

And the Streets Are Paved With...

No, not gold, at least in Rolling Meadows. But we saw this on the way home the last two nights, so it came to mind.

There's a big new Meijer's store in Rolling Meadows and they've reconfigured the intersection of Golf and Algonquin to have two left turns lanes in each direction on Algonquin. When the left-turn signal is active for Algonquin, a curve of light springs to life in the roadbed, showing where each lane should be turning, then vanishes when the turn signal goes to red.

This is very impressive, but I worry about what's going to happen when the snowplows show up this winter, even though the lights appear to be recessed. We'll see.
