We are thinking of buying a replacement for our minivan. As a result, we headed out to the (closed) auto dealership today and spent some time looking at colors on the lot. Because if you're going to live with a car for seven years or more, you ought to like the color if you have any choice about it -- and you can't trust what you see on the monitor.

It was good that the dealership was closed, because Katie and Julie spent a lot of time running around. And jumping in puddles. And picking up loose bits and pieces.

*sigh*

Did you find anything which appealed to you?

The reaction of the sales-droid when I went looking for my new vehicle last year was pretty amusing. He's obviously used to women who are much more into the fru-fru stuff than I am. I had already looked at the colors available and determined that I could deal with most of them. I had two non-negotiable things - a manual transmission and (in terms of colors) not black or white. He kept asking me "what about this or that option?" Nope - only want this package (to get the sun roof and the iPod doc) and that's it. Good luck negotiating.

What did you end up getting?

Except for a brief flirtation with Mazdas in the '90s, I've only ever owned Subarus. This is my 6 or 7th one, depending on how you count them but only the third one I've bought new. Until this one, they've been little wagons - the last one was an Imprezza Outback. I now have a spiffy new Forester, that is by far the biggest vehicle I've ever owned or driven on a regular basis. It's not significantly different in size than my husband's Jeep Cherokee Sport, although it does not feel anywhere near as tall.

And picking up loose bits and pieces.

One hopes that's bits and pieces of ice from the puddles, not from the cars...
