This Too Shall Pass

I'm scheduled for a routine colonoscopy tomorrow -- with two parents who died of colon cancer, I'm on the list to keep an eye on. This will be the third one and I'm hoping the results are good. But we'll know more later.

In the meantime, I've been on a diet of clear liquids all day. Then there's the clean out procedure that started tonight.

All things considered, though, it beats the alternative.

YOu can say that again.

I had one of these last year. Try and think about the lovely drugs you can for the procedure and forget the icky drinks (and the icky results)

Thanks. Actually, I don't mind the colonoscopy so much, since I'm mostly unconscious. It's the clean out that stinks. (Literally.)

Been there, done that, probably loved it just as much as you will/are. The only benefit (well, aside from the health check) is that now I have an active understanding of the old phrases "went through me like a dose of salts."

I'm sure it'll all go well. Hold your nose while drinking the barium. It won't really help, but it'll give you something to do.

(Although I go for the -- excuse the expression -- full-bore colonoscopy. And a Canadian friend of mine had a single nasty polyp that was too far up for sigmoidoscopy to detect, but he was fortunate enough to have the colonoscopy that did find it.)

*hugs* I've heard many folks say that the prep is really the worst part of having a colonoscopy, my mom included. Good for you for being checked, esp since you have family history. Take care.
