[livejournal.com profile] catalana and I went to see the Phandemonium-sponsored 10 AM showing of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. ([livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise couldn't come because she had to work.) Despite dire reports from generations of fans who have memorized every line in the book, every line in the radio serial, and every line in the BBC miniseries adaptation, it turns out to be a pretty good movie, funny in the right places, and a nice bit of light entertainment.

I read the book and saw the miniseries long ago, so I remembered the things that the scriptwriters did and had forgotten the same things that they'd cut. Works for me.

My thought on the movie (and I haven't seen it yet) is that the books were different from the radion show, the TV show was different from the books, and the movie will be different still. Part of what makes the whole thing interesting to me.
