Shortly after returning home from FKO, I woke up in the morning -- and, no, I don't remember what I'd been dreaming about -- and the phrase that immediately popped into my mind as I turned the alarm off was "Assume a perfectly spherical pile of dead bodies."

I'm not exactly sure why, but somehow I associate this with spending time over the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] catalana, the Philosopher Filker of Death and Destruction. :)

Hmmm... [RUBS CHIN, PUTS ON PHYSICISTS HAT AND PINS GOLD MEDAL FOR PEDANTRY TO HIS CHEST] Traditionally, a "pile" of something is a roughly vertical structure; basically a column, but with optional spreading around the base. However, this traditional model assumes the pile is founded on a flat surface which is tangential to a uniform, colinear gravitational field.

A pile *can* be spherical, however, if it is founded on a spherical surface with a radial gravitational field, i.e enclosing an effective point source of gravity. Such as a planet.

[TURNS PALE] Oh dear God, she's buried the whole planet in corpses! =8oO
