In honor of the really nice weather, [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise and I flung open the door of the garage, pulled out both cars, and starting throwing things out. Before long, we'd managed to clear the shelves where the Dodeka traveling inventory goes, making it possible to take it out of the minivan for the first time since October.

The trash men are going to think we're demented though. No garbage for two weeks, because of Minicon and FKO and our trash collection being on Friday when we were out of town. Then a huge mass of recycling, because nothing stops the build up of paper and cans last week.

This week, the results of the garage clean up arrive on the curb.

Post-cleaning, Sam and Bonnie came by and we fired up the grill. Gretchen had picked up strawberries earlier with shortcake in mind, but when Sam and I went to the store to grab meat, she'd forgotten to mention that we should grab aerosol whipped cream. So Sam and I went through the Culver's drive-through window later and came back with a quart of vanilla custard instead. This was a much better idea.

Reminds me of the summer many years ago when I was assigned the dubious duty of cleaning out my grandmother's basement. There was ancient paint which was clumps of hard pigment at the bottom of a layer of oil and boxes of detergent were like rocks. And as fast as I was throwing stuff like that out, she was marching it back in with hostile statements about what a "wasteful fellow" I was. Yup, Grandmother was a depression mother.

Of the things that I miss from living in Wisconsin, one of the major ones is good frozen custard. Culver's and Michael's were both staples of mine. Nothing of the sort is available around where I live now -- just Dairy Queen style frozen icecream, and it's really not a good substitute...

Bill? You ARE demented. (sorry couldn't resist) One of the hardest things to get used to in our new house, it Wednesday morning garbage pick up. After being in an apartment for many years and being able to take gabage down any tinme it took some getting used to. Add to that recycling is only every other week. One week it took me nearly half an hour to get it all to the curb. then I remembered the boys had said to let them know when I was starting. Oh well. I had to buy garbage tags (5 for $10) since richmond hill has a five bag limit on garbage. Ah well, our garage is slated for cleaning this next Saturday. Oh joy!
