West Wing Season Finale

I'm happy to report that -- according to the Chicago Tribune -- The West Wing has been renewed for another season. Based on tonight's episode, that's a fine thing. daisy_knotwise looked up at the half-hour mark and was amazed that the hour wasn't over, because they'd crammed that much action into the show. It was wonderful fun.

Ok, it's not much of a spoiler that Santos got the nomination. But who saw Leo as the Vice Presidential candidate before Josh and Leo's final meeting? I looked at Gretchen and said, "They just nominated Dick Cheney."

It's going to be a fascinating campaign next fall and I can only say -- as I've said before -- I wish I could have these two candidates to choose between. But it's a lot easier when you can order them from Central Casting.

Meanwhile, in our other subplot, I observe that in the Bartletverse, there is no Soyuz escape capsule at the International Space Station that would allow at least two of the stranded astronauts to get down to Earth. But I trust that the military shuttle will get them home safely.

I wish that I knew that we had one of those in this universe...

*Loved* this episode! The Santos-McGarry ticket vs. a Republican who's more than merely a pasteboard target. I just hope we actually get the campaign next season, and don't start with the Inaugural Ball... No! They couldn't be that cruel!

I think only a completely intractable contract dispute would cause them to skip to the Inaugural Ball. And I think it more likely that President Bartlet would fall over dead (due to Martin Sheen declining to return) than that happening.

As our cast stands now, though, I've got to believe that the actors playing Santos, Leo, Josh, Donna, and (probably) Will are already under contract, along with Alan Alda. And I'm glad that Leo is going to be around, because he's one of my favorite characters on the show.

Loved the finale, but I don't want to wait for the next season. I also love Leo and it will be great to see him continue. Of course I like both the canidates, so I would be happy if Alan Alda won the vote.

I wouldn't be suprised if Barlett droped dead, but I hate to see them kill off another cast member. I'd like to see him go peacefully into retirement.

TV Guide reports that next year's budget is going to have to be cut by 50%. There will likely be some not-very-pretty things happening to some of the cast.
