One Is the Loneliest Number

billroperApparently, this holds for geese as well as humans.
Today I saw something I hadn't seen before, two geese fighting, apparently over a female. They were grabbing each other's beaks and flapping wings violently. Then one of them would end up chasing the other away, but the loser would keep sneaking back and trying to get near the other 10 geese in the group. I watched two of the geese follow him across the retention pond, carefully staying between him and the rest of the group.
I hope he has better luck elsewhere.
