Living in the Future

billroperI'm living in the future. I have been for a while now.
It was one thing in Gulf War I, when CNN was broadcasting live images from Baghdad. But then there was Gulf War II, where we saw live video footage being beamed back from embedded reporters as the units they were attached to found tanks and complexes that had been eerily abandoned by Saddam's Republican Guard.
And today I'm watching a live webcam feed of fires in New Orleans on my computer here at work, broadcast by![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
interdictor as he tries to keep his little corner of civilization alive during what daisy_knotwise has aptly described as "the worst U.S. natural disaster of the television age".
I'm living in the future. I just wish it didn't look quite so much like the past.
