So Who Is That Half-Blood Prince Anyway?

With many people waiting for the release of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", there's going to be lots of speculation about who the other character in the title is. I can hardly refuse to contribute to the pile. :)

What if the "half-blood prince" is a new character, a first-year student who is heir to the throne of England in the Potterverse? Certainly he'd be a bigger celebrity than Harry, which would be a novel experience for Harry at Hogwarts. And imagine the discomfort of Malfoy and crew at having to deal with the half-breed.

It's probably all rubbish, but it would be interesting.

Rowling is on record as saying we've already met the Half-Blood Prince and that she almost used this title for an earlier (the second?) book in the series. It seems to me Seamus Finnigan is the most likely bet. Of course, making it Dudley would be rather interesting.

Interesting idea, although I personally don't think that the Prince of England would be popular (or even well known) among wizards. Harry marked the turning point of a near apocolyptic take over of the wizard world by evil. At best, anybody involved with England would be seen as the son of a tribal leader in some far off corner of the world. Interesting, but not relevant to the "real world" of Hogwarts.

No, Nevil is, If I recall, the last of an old and noble wizzarding family.

I'm betting on Colin Creavy. He was introduced in CoS with some fanfare, but not much was done with him.

Personally, I think it's Hagrid. We know he's a half-giant; maybe his mother was some kind of queen or something.

Who says "half-blood" has to mean half-muggle/half-human? *Grin*
