The No Pull-Ups Day Eve Celebration

In honor of No Pull-Ups Day Eve, after dinner tonight we headed out to mail a couple of important envelopes and then stopped by the Dairy Queen so that Katie could have a huge ice cream cone in celebration of what a big girl she is. Then we stopped by the Jewel so I could grab some more soda before it goes off sale tomorrow.

Katie is upset about the "deal", but I've explained to her that the button has been pressed and once you've pressed the button, you've accepted the deal. Katie, who is completely non-cognizant of Howie Mandel, wants to know why I pressed the button without asking her first, and I can only explain that the button's been pressed, so there's nothing to do about it.

Katie is not happy about this. There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Tomorrow will be exciting!

Given how strong willed Katie is (gee, I wonder where she got that from :)), I wish you good nerves. I am expecting protest accidents galore. Don't give in - if you do, you lose ... otoh all that good info about bribery should at least show her the upsides of this, occasionally ...

Ahhhhh, I see something here. a celebration of being a big girl before she's actually done anything is a little premature. It's a little tricky here, since parenting is the hardest job is the universe and one hesitates to point out errors and stuff like that. Perhaps what she needs is a simple reward system. A star for every day she is dry with out pull ups. When she has say 15 in a row she gets a big treat. Something she's willing to work towards. Setting a goal with her, and being consistant with the stars, or points and having a goal with a reward is something that works with a lot of kids. It worked wonders for a young lady in our house a few times. Lots of luck, I know you'll keep us updated. (G)

We've tried the reward strategy and it hasn't worked for us. This is not to say that it will never work; only that we haven't had any luck with it yet. :)
