Our rather venerable (ok, about 17 years old) mantel clock has decided to tick no more. We've been looking for a replacement for about a month and finally just gave up and ordered one on-line. I wouldn't have thought that finding something reasonable would be this hard, but it was.

I hope we like it. :)

Ours quit ticking (again), but since it's an antique (made in the '30s, used to belong to Ange's grandmother IIRC) I will take it apart, clean and relubricate it. (It wasn't working when we first got it from Ange's mom 15 years ago, and I did the whole clean and lubricate thing then. It lasted until this spring, so I guess it's due for another cleaning.)

I would have thought that the first time I tried to replace our battery-driven mantel clock that it would have been simple, too, but the alternatives were either $50 or unreadable from across a (small) room. When our old clock recovered from its time-change-resetting-induced malfunction, we gave up the search. (Bad idea, which we will rue later, when the clock dies for real).
