I had to spend some time untangling the optical cable after pushing it through the exit hole in the back of the console, which meant I was flat on my back with a flashlight resting on my face underneath the console, but the failed cable has now been replaced (although not removed from the mess beneath the console). And I've gone into Cubase and set up the MIDI Time Code and MIDI Machine Control settings so that it will talk to the d8b.

Now, I just need to get that speaker back...

Yay!!!! Glad to hear you are almost up and running. I have been playing with Garage Band on my Ipad2 and having a blast :-O Not that I will use it for recording stuff but it is a cool song writing tool. Looking forward to spending time in Winnipeg and relaxing. It will be great to get out of Sue's hair for a bit as well :-) We have not really been apart since I moved here.

I hear that one. The last time my desks got moved (to repaint the room) I found several abandoned in place power cords, a couple runs of cat 5, and there is still a parallel cable I haven't pulled out.
