The new Comcast cable modem is now installed and my old Speakeasy DSL service has been canceled. So far, the new service seems to be a good bit faster.

On the other hand, I'm not getting any of my LiveJournal e-mail notifications. I'm getting the rest of my e-mail...

Livejournal is apparently having trouble. Many people are complaining about not getting comment notifications.

Which service package did you opt for? I think I have the base Performance package (lowest regular tier), and on dslreports, Java speed test to Palo Alto, I get:

I've been hearing lots of complaints about LJ's "upgrade" breaking comment notifications, so it may be coincidence. I know I've not gotten any notifications....

Cometathinkofit, I haven't gotten notifications in the past 2 days.

Apart from that, Tell me how well it works out. We want to move off of Speakeasy too.

Not too dissimilar to the move we made a couple weeks back. We're getting better performance (at least based on the fact that people online don't disrupt VoIP calls).

I really liked Speakeasy until recently. Their customer service, at least, got a lot worse after the recent merger - and they seem only interested in real businesses now.

Word. We came to the conclusion they were actively *trying* to get rid of their residential customers. We had more outages in 1 month than in the previous 5 years, & the webmail was fubared beyond all use.

Cable modem connections are, in general, pretty fast. Every time I call them they try to sell me an even faster connection, and I tell them that heck, I could live just fine with an even slower connection than I've got. I don't really NEED to be able to download a high def movie in 45 minutes. But since work is paying for my connection, I'll just stick where I am.
