Other than the extra hour or so that it took to wend through five different people because my initial phone rep couldn't figure out how to order the TV to Internet connection option (I would have ordered on line, but I had to order via phone because Discover was offering an additional $10 / month off for 12 months if you bill the charges to your Discover card), my DirecTV order went just fine. The installer will be here on Wednesday morning.

And on Wednesday afternoon, I will take all of Comcast's little digital boxes back to them as I cancel my service with them. :)

The only thing that came up on our install is that the TV to internet connection option overrides the whole-house DVR option. The DVR has one ethernet adapter built in, and it EITHER goes through the cable to the other DirecTV receivers, or to the ethernet port. They have an adapter that allows you to connect your internet connection to the cable, allowing both whole-house DVR and internet accessibility, but apparently that didn't get on this order. I've got a new ethernet switch coming anyway, I'm going to find out if it's possible to hook these things together via the house's ethernet cabling. If that doesn't work, I'll be giving them a call and asking whether they can just ship me a self-install kit for the other option.

The guys I talked to that originated the order weren't really up to date on the whole-house DVR. The installer knew exactly what was going on though, and I confirmed that he was correct with a few Google searches.

Hmm, I haven't heard about the Discover option. Do I have to use that during the order, or can I switch to it now? Actually IIRC they said on the intro that they would only bill to Visa or MC. Hmm.

Comcast, you might think you would be doing them a favor by bringing their stuff back, but be sure that they don't charge you a 'teller' fee for doing so.

With the Discover bill? I don't think I've ever gotten a piece of paper from them, except the one the card was wrapped in.
