It's Quiet Out There

I've noticed that it's gotten quiet out there on LJ lately. This means one of two things:

You're very busy.

You've wandered off to some other social networking forum that I find less convenient to read.

I'm hoping that it's the former and that, if so, you're having a good time while being that busy. :)

A lot of people who are on my flist on LJ seem to be on Facebook now. I am, too, but I haven't got used to it, yet. Plus, I'd rather spend less time on the computer and more time watching the massive amounts of video tapes I still have.

I've also noticed that a lot of people are mostly posting to Facebook, even if they have an LJ account.

I still do my long, non-meemish, posting to LiveJournal, but it is automatically cross-posted to FaceBook (unfortunately twice in many cases, which I need to fix).

*chuckle* I wish I had time to be on LJ more. I can barely log into game when I am awake. Retail work this time of year is no fun. Plus I like seeing the husband more than 20 minutes ... somedays =p.

My folks are making the trip from AL to TX this week so its been a total mess with trying to get the house into a facade of clean. Plus I have cooking to do.

I am hoping to post more over the next few weeks, since the folks coming here is our christmas celebration.

I have invited some friends who have had a bad year to come over to enjoy food and silly movies, but that is not work.

I do play on facebook, but that is mostly for games and not reading.

Just finished working 17 out of 19 days on a trial which ended up the case was settled today (and I would've had to work at least another six days straight).

Personally, I refer to the last minute settlement or continuance of a trial to be litigation interruptus.

My worst case evah -- both sides showed up for trial to find that we were missing an essential element -- jurors.

Mostly my day job, and taking care of things at home.

Opposite to some other commenters, I am on Facebook but am probably going to quit it. What do I get for my $20 / month? Mostly, gifts in games I won't play (because you have to give them access to your contact list), invitations to ditto, and announcements of leveling (or whatever) in same. Am I doing it wrong? I'm ready to tell them not to renew for January. If someone can tell me some settings to change that would make it worth my while & money -- productive rather than a sink -- I may change my mind.

I'm curious... why are you paying for Facebook? It's a free service.

As for all the visual clutter from games on your Wall... if you mouse over to the upper right corner of any game posts in your feed, you should be able to click "Hide" and it will hide all posts from that game. If you accidentally "hide" a friend's posts instead of a game's posts, it's undoable... I think from the Privacy settings (they keep moving all that around, so I have no idea where it is this week). In your Requests, you can block invitations from games (on a per-game basis), so just block any that you're not interested in the first time they pop up, and then people won't even see you in the list when they go to send invites from that game (I block all games other than the ones that I play).

I find myself occasionally posting to FB, almost Twitter-style, mostly meaningless updates. I come to LJ to...journal. And never manage to finish an entry.

There does seem to have been a gradual decline in LJ activity by filkers. Maybe it's Facebook. Maybe it's that people have social commitments this time of year. This weekend it might be Hanukkah that's keeping some busy elsewhere.

I post to my LJ about once a week, so can't say I'm doing more or less there. I've been on a business trip most of this week, and was busy with prepping for and hosting a housefilk just prior to that. So I've probably commented less than usual. I'd have posted more about the housefilk if I wasn't off traveling.

I have not succumbed to Facebook yet and currently have no plans to. I don't have enough time as it is for the social networks/forums I'm already on!
