I saw an ad in the paper today from American Science and Surplus talking about their telescope sale. Now Katie has been wanting a telescope, but what I actually needed was a really cheap destroyable telescope. And along with all of the good scopes, they had one that fit the bill perfectly.

Elsewhere in the store, they had a Curious George kaleidoscope.

[livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise has informed me that it is time to stop buying Katie Christmas presents now. Of course, she still wants a yo-yo. :)

I do not know how many presents you bought so far - and a yo-yo isn't a huge big thing, so it likely could go on top ;-) - but imo, too many presents might lessen the feeling that presents are something special, and when she's older and learns to count, it might become too important, how *many* there are. But it is important to also be able to be happy about small things and few things.
*hands you lots of grains of salt with this*

Mwa ha ha ha haa - yeah, it's really easy to get carried away buying presents for the kids, eh? Exacerbated by any tendency you might have to buy presents gradually through the year as/when you see cool things or good deals - I usually wrap stuff on Christmas Eve and then end up looking at the pile and thinking "oops - kind of overdid it there...."

The Yomega brain is fun and pretty cheap. It has a clutch in it so that anyone can start doing sleeper tricks easily. Wing models are a little easier to run too. They're about $15. My yoyo is a straight transaxle, but my son has a power brain XP, and it's fun to play with and super easy to sleep.

I love AS&S, they have the most unusual stuff. You need to set aside time though because to really appreciate that place you have to up and down EVERY aisle.

So, you're telling her the kaleidoscope is a telescope, right? ^_^
