Getting to the Root of the Problem

*sigh* So I saw my dentist today and now have a referral for a $1000+ root canal tomorrow. Ouch!

On the other hand, we're in the open enrollment period for my company benefits, so I think I will now probably buy the family dental insurance that I had been planning to pick up next year anyway. This won't help with the root canal, of course.

The sad thing is that there are moments when I think that the root canal might be the most pleasant thing that happens all week. :)

Interesting how we're in sync -- I also got referred for a likely root canal today. I got the final crown on one tooth, but mentioned that I'd had another tooth flare up in a toothache during the past week. My dentist took an X-ray and said that it looked as if I'd once had a "poor man's root canal," a procedure which is no longer done because it often leads to problems many years later (as in this case). This could mean two crowns in the space of just a few weeks. I'll have to check on how my dental insurance looks; I might be able to put it off till 2010 if it saves me a lot of money, since it isn't currently hurting.
