Chicago was eliminated in the first round of the voting for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Wow. I didn't see that coming.

Mind you, I suspect that will probably be the best possible outcome for the Chicago area, as it eliminates a whole potful of money that could be ill-used. But still, wow.

Congratulations. I hope Boston will be spared too.

Yeah. I'd have loved having it in Chicago since I could take the train down from Michigan and watch it and we wouldn't have to pay for it. The Olymics are -expensive- to host, even when the money is carefully spent. Sigh.

Interesting that you assume it would be ill-used.

Interesting... one delegate complained to President Obama that going through U.S. Customs was "harrowing." Maybe too many sports types have had too much hassle at our borders in the last few years.

On the other hand, the Olympics have never been held in South America, so Rio de Janeiro seems an excellent choice.

Will the Rio Summer Olympics be held in their summer or our summer?
They had a nice spring day to celebrate in today.
