They told us yesterday that our office will definitely be closing as of July 17th. This is going to be damnably inconvenient as I figure out how to get things set up to work from home.

Michelle was able to do it, but there are certainly some compromises made -and she wasn't doing software stuff and having to upload, compile, etc.

Will you be entirely officeless, then? How will the company be run?

In theory, I could go to the office in the old IBM building downtown. In practice, this would give me a 90 minute commute each way and I'd need to leave work around 4:30 PM to catch the last good train home. Since I'm working with folks in California, that's a pretty stupid time to have to leave.

So while there will be many offices, there is not, at this time, a suburban office. I have an opinion about that, but I don't think I'm allowed to put it in a blog. :)

Suckage, but it's good so long as your job's not in jep and you can work from home when distracted by offspring!

Oh, yes, I still have a job. Thankfully.

They're closing this office and moving people out of it. Some people will go downtown, but I suspect most of them will end up working from home, because they're in this office because they didn't want to go downtown.

That's good. And your commute to work will be *much* shorter. :-)

Now to figure out how to keep the kids out of the office while Daddy's working.

Have you considered applying for a job in Redwood Shores? I think you would have more opportunities for advancement there.
