The Jewel and the Citgo on Elmhurst Road have been keeping pace as gas prices fall with the Jewel being usually a penny cheaper than the Citgo and the cheapest gas in the neighborhood. It was at $2.049 yesterday, two cents a gallon less than the Speedway on Touhy.

However, Gas War Alley has been being beaten on price lately from time to time by the dueling BP and Shell stations near where I work -- still in Cook County! Yesterday, the BP station was at $2.019, a penny or two less than the Shell station across the street, which has been the norm for pricing.

This morning, the Speedway on Touhy was at $1.989. The BP was at $1.999.

Until the Shell station lowered its price to $1.979 while I was on my way to lunch. By the time I'd finished lunch, the BP has lowered its price to $1.979.

Since I had about a gallon of gas left in my tank, I issued an immediate buy order. :)

Update: $1.989 tonight at the Citgo, $1.979 at the Jewel.

Elaine filled up the van yesterday and the Prius today, both at the same gas station. Today's price was seven cents less than yesterday's.

Down here, the price has been down around $1.91 for a couple of days.

In Missouri, it was $1.73, I think.

Wow... I haven't seen it that low here yet, but we're not too far behind. I filled up for $1.76/gal a couple of days ago.

Alas, when I filled up yesterday I still paid $2.139.

This wouldn't be too bad, except all of the hill and the more aggressive California driving style I've had to adopt (speed up faster, tailgate less) has cut my mileage by a fair amount.

I don't buy gas much, but we're in the $1.80 range I think. Last time I filled a car was about 4 weeks ago and they're both still over 3/4 tank.

I probably ought to go fill up a couple of red plastic gas cans so I've got generator fuel this winter. What's in the last can now is summer gas, and may not want to start in the hand-cranked generator this winter.

We paid $1.95 tonight at the usually cheapest BP on Rt 59. It was actually a cent cheaper at the Speedway down the street but my Soob's not too fond of that flavor.

Here in Columbus near our house I saw it for $15.9. I had filled up (3/4 tank) for $1.67 just last night so I was a bit miffed at the price drop, but it is making going home to AL for the holidays more doable if it stays this low or goes lower.

We've been seeing lots of $1.79 & thereabouts here in Denver. I need to get gas tomorrow so it will probably go up before I get down there.

I wonder if the oil companies are pricing by dartboard.

with oil at $53 a barrel, it actually should be lower.
but, it'll get there when it gets there.
meanwhile, in NJ, it's 1.71 in places.
back in '98 when i lived in atlanta i bought gas for 69 cents a gallon for a couple weeks. then it "shot up" to a ghastly 89 cents!

It was 1.639 at Meijer tonight, when I discovered I'd forgotten to buy bread and had nothing to make my sandwich with for tomorrow.
