Pool!

I was feeling a good bit better today, so we were able to make our scheduled trip to the local pool / water park with Katie, Julie, samwinolj, Bonnie, and Jerry. This was Katie first experience with a pool and it went reasonably well, aided by the fact that it's a zero-depth pool at one end, so she could walk in. She was skeptical about it at first, but was fascinated by the jets that bubbled water up into the air.

She was not so thrilled about any activity that might get water in her face. This shouldn't have been a surprise, given how much she doesn't like getting her hair washed. She was also very skeptical as Daddy kneeled in the deeper water, putting her in water up to mid chest.

"No, no, no, no, no!"

Well, ok.

But she generally had a good time and enjoyed splashing around.

Unfortunately, this meant she missed her nap, so she was quite a handful this evening. On the other hand, it sounds like she may have fallen directly asleep, so she was probably a very tired little girl.

I remember Tammy's first foray to a water park. She'd been to the beach (where she would refuse to play IN the water (because it moved?)) before, but the zero to six foot pool was just some much fun to splash & play in, until they turned on the wave machine & she got out of Dodge so fast that I think she ran on top of the water.

They've both gotten over that now, but Mindy (the younger one) still is leery of water that moves in unpredictable ways & also still does not like to get her face wet, even at age 7.

Me, I'll fall laughing into the water & surface still laughing.

On an aside, Rolf is coming to visit next week. He's got a new job starting in Sept. & feels up to spending a bit of cash for fun.

I took swimming lessons when I was little (under 5, since that's when we moved.) For an entire summer I would only go in the pool if Liz was with me. Not Mom. Not Dad. Not CC. It had to be Liz. No one really knows why.

Happily, I eventually outgrew that. *grin*
