We spend much of our time trying to figure out what Katie is likely to eat at any given moment. Chicken nuggets are one of her favorite foods -- if she's in her car seat. Otherwise, she's as likely to snub them as to eat them. French fries are pretty much always good, but not very proteinaceous. Hot dogs (minus the bun) are sometimes good, sometimes not.

It was to my surprise at dinner tonight when Katie ate all of her grilled smoked bratwurst and then agitated for more. I ran out and threw another one on the grill, which she eventually ate most of.

Tomorrow, who knows?

Oh yes - that sounds soooo familiar. Usually for example Amy will all but inhale leek & potato soup, but not on Saturday when I wanted her to have a nutritious meal before we went off on our (evening) picnic. Yesterday she happily ate hamburger/meatballs and even had seconds, but most times we have to poke her to get her to eat dinner. Ah, the joys of children...

Look for Katie to shoot up, soon. We can always tell when Meredith is in a growth spurt. She eats everything in site. The rest of the time, I wonder how she she stays alive with as little as she sometimes eats.

supposedly, their feet grow first, then they get taller. I never really noticed that with Meredith. She usually, gets a little curvy in the hips (which means her pants actually stay on her hips), then sprouts up (and she has pants problems again).

There was one time when Mere was about 4 and came home from pre-school complaining bitterly that she didn't get enough to eat at lunch. Her teacher had already told me that Mere had been upset that there wasn't enough meatballs for 4ths! She sprouted up shortly after that.

And several years ago scientists proved what parents have always known - that kids literally do grow overnight.

And with Meredith, we have growing pains...

It's sooo unpredictable. We were having dinner with Caitlyn present and gave her a selection of tasty bits on her high chair. Ham, cheese, peas, garlic mashed potatoes, plain bread. She ate all the bread first, then the potatoes, then the other three. Normally it's the reverse. C'est la vie.

But can it touch? Meredith still doesn't like food to touch each other. In her world, she'd have everything in a small and separate dish. Soups and casseroles are NOT big on her list because it mixes textures. Just give her cheese (of any/all kinds), though and she's happy.
