Or is it a phobia if your fear is perfectly well justified? I've developed a real ha, ha, ha, don't do that problem with stepping on ice.

Of course, my last misstep on the ice last January was a doozy!

It all depends. I have a terrible confidence level on ice because I have no balance; my feet came out of the womb messed up and while they're functional, running is a serious bitch and always has been, and I can't dance, etc. NO balance.

A phobia is an irrational fear. This one sounds pretty rational to me.

I think it's technically an aversion. And completely rational. :)

Possibly reaching into the PTSD range.

[livejournal.com profile] tarsa has the same fear/phobia, and it's justified. A slip on ice broke her left kneecap. In 8 pieces. She no longer has a left kneecap.

OED says:

A fear, horror, strong dislike, or aversion; esp. an extreme or irrational fear or dread aroused by a particular object or circumstance.

So, actually, a phobia doesn't *have* to be irrational. I believe, therefore, it is a phobia. A justified phobia.

It's not paranoia when they're genuinely out to get you.
