Ok, it's very seldom that reading columnist Charles Krauthammer brings tears to my eyes, but he succeeded in doing so with the last four paragraphs of this column.

You might enjoy reading it.

Usually when Krauthammer brings tears to my eyes, it is for a completely different reason.

I haven't seen "In the Shadow of the Moon" yet (it is only playing at the Music Box and I have to find a time to get there. As I mentioned to you last Monday, I was planning on going this past Saturday night, but I got a better offer). I am reading the book upon which the documentary is based (I'm up to the flight of Apollo 8), which comes after an interlude looking at the Soviet space program.

Dr. Krauthammer is one of the tiny handful of conservative commentators for whom I actually have a grudging measure of respect, and can actually get me to consider his point of view fairly. This column is just one of the kind he writes every so often that are the reason why. (It also didn't hurt that I used to see him arguing with Gordon Peterson and the late Carl Rowan on Inside Washington every Saturday evening when I lived in the DC area.)

Just saw the movie myself; now I have to go find the book.

The book is published by University of Nebraska Press, and written by Francis French and Colin Burgess. You may have to special order it.
