The World's Best Filker's Wife

It's official now that I've booked non-refundable plane tickets -- I'll be heading off to the UK filk con next year with catalana. daisy_knotwise is staying home with Katie, because we're not at all up for trying to maneuver a just-over-one-year-old little girl on a trans-Atlantic flight. If you thought she didn't like the car seat, I just shudder to think about the effects on the other passengers on an overnight flight.

Gretchen notes that this makes her the World's Best Filker's Wife, a sentiment that I have to agree with. (Not that she's not a filker herself, for that matter, but...)

We're currently trying to figure out how to get all three of us down to GAFilk without having to fly Katie or have me burn up bunches of vacation time. We'll see how that works out. I'm hoping favorably.

After road trips to closer cons like Conclave and OVFF, you should have a feel for the "baby-multiplier" (i.e. if a trip takes 6 hours without the baby, and 8 hours with, then your baby-multiplier is 1.3), as well as how Katie can handle (per leg and/or per trip).

When we used to drive down to GaFilk, it was about a 12 hour trip. We left after the end of rush hour on Thursday, drove overnight, and caught a nap between arrival and the beginning of the con. On the return trip, we left about 9 AM (after the worst of the Atlanta traffic died down - the other alternative was to be rolling before 6) and drove straight back.

Hmm, heading off to a foreign country with another woman, leaving the wife and baby at home...sounds suspicious to me. *grin*

I'm sad Gretchen can't come, but I completely understand not trying to bring a little one along. I don't think Katie would enjoy the trip.

Great that you'll be coming! :D Sorry that Gretchen won't be coming.. :( And I'm sure the various Official Filk Aunties Over Here are heartbroken that Katie won't be coming. :D But I think you're absolutely right about not taking a one-year-old toddler on a transatlantic flight.
