Some days I'm just a little slow. I was listening to our classic rock station in the car the other day and Jethro Tull came on. I'm listening to the chords and the attack on the guitar and I'm thinking to myself, "That sounds really familiar."

I think I just identified one of [livejournal.com profile] tarkrai's major musical influences. :)

Which song was it?

Snort. Well, that doesn't leave much ;-) What sprang to mind from your description was "Locomotive breath". It has a piano lead in to a very hard charging rhythm.

Unfortuntely the few samples I could find of it only feature the piano intro.

That was my reaction too, but then I was a huge Tull fan long before I met Steve, so I noticed it when I first heard him play. :)

He and I talked about this at some length one day when we were driving (I think it was the evening of the joint house concert with he, Cat and myself). He has a lot of Pete Townsend as well, but Ian Anderson is a big influence on his music.

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull turned 60 today, and he still rocks as hard as he ever did.

As a part-time flute player, Jethro Tull -- or specifically, Ian Anderson -- is one of my minor musical influences.

I am a big fan also and Jethro Tull are performing here in Toronto in November so I must get a ticket.

If so, it's amazing that we mesh so well musically, Smac and I -- since I think my major influences may tend more toward Chris deBurgh, Meatloaf, Stan Rogers, and Gilbert & Sullivan ...

Yeah, and Pete Townshend and Meatloaf. Ask him about Townshend's "Lifehouse" someday.
