So the other day, Doug asks me how much I weigh. I tell him and he explains that when he was at [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K & B's anniversary party, they went riding on Segways and that it was very cool. You can also do that on the museum campus in Chicago and since we are looking for something interesting for the programming group to do for an outing, he thought he would check with them and find out if they had a weight limit before booking it. This was thoughtful of him.

So the outing's booked. And today I hear from Doug that he's just found out that they do have a weight limit, contrary to what he'd been told before.

250 pounds.

I haven't seen the low side of 250 pounds in a very long time. I certainly won't see it by next week.

*sigh*

The real weight limit is much higher.

I'm just shy of 300 myself and I've ridden them a few times. The unit has no issues will control and the owner of one of them said he's had many folks larger them me try it out without issues.

I can relate. Segway tours have begun to crop up in Indy too, but it's probably not for me for quite a while yet. I've got quite a ways to go (downward) before I get back to the neighborhood of 250 (we're talking not-since-my-early-30s here). Oh well. I'd probably bash my head on low branches anyway, and my bikes have been scolding me lately. ;-)
